Definitions

“Contract” means the agreement between you and St Mary’s University

“Micro credential” means your chosen non accredited course of study

“Website” means https://microcredentials.stmarys.ac.uk

“You” means a prospective learner at St Mary’s University using your own email address 

Terms and Conditions (Microcredentials delivered on Canvas)

These Terms and Conditions apply to registration for a St Mary’s University Microcredential. They set out the terms of the agreement between you and St Mary’s University, and refer to Microcredential policies, guidance documents and FAQs listed.

As part of your agreement to use the Canvas platform, you will also be asked to agree to Canvas Terms and Conditions and associated policies. (  https://www.instructure.com/policies/terms-of-use)

Your obligations

You agree to do the following:

  • pay the fee before the course starts;
  • ensure that, where applicable, you have the correct immigration status and/or visa in place for the duration and take any action required by you to comply with UK immigration laws;

Accreditation of the course

Unless expressly stated in the course content, the course is not formally accredited, whether by St Mary’s University or otherwise, and may not be used (in whole or in part) to satisfy the requirements for the award of any degree or diploma by St Mary’s University.

Course Completion Period

You will have 1 year from the date of payment to complete your chosen course.

Technology and System requirements

 You will be required to provide and have access to the following IT equipment and facilities in order to access Canvas and to participate on the course:

  • a personal computer or tablet.
  • an internet connection with sufficient bandwidth to allow video streaming (4Mps minimum).
  • and
  • a microphone and webcam

 The Course can be accessed using the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari or Microsoft Edge. Full functionality cannot be guaranteed in older or less commonly used browsers.

Your personal computer and webcam will require the following minimum specifications in order for You to be able to access the course/course materials:

Hardware

(a) Headphones, soundcard and speakers, microphone and webcam.

(b) Minimum Intel Core i5 (Minimum Dual Core 2 GHz) or AMD A10 or equivalent, 4GB of RAM (recommended 8 GB for better overall experience), with a screen resolution of at least 1280x800px.

(c) Please note that most content will be accessible via phone, but a PC/laptop/tablet will be required for assessment (if your Course is assessed).

Operating System

(a) Windows: Windows 10 or later. Mac: OS X 10.13 or later.

(b) Linux: 64-bit Linux distribution of Ubuntu 16.04+LTS, Fedora 30+ Workstation, RHEL 8+ Workstation or CentOS 8+.

(c) Android: OS 10, 11 or 12

 (d) iOS: iOS13 or iOS14

Internet Connection

Broadband/high speed connection – recommended 10 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload speeds.

Withdrawal

As you will not be a formal St Mary’s University student, withdrawal will not be required for these courses.

How to pay

You may only pay for Products using a debit card or credit card. We accept the following cards: Visa, MasterCard and International Maestro.

 By clicking [“pay now”] you agree to pay for the Products (including any delivery or other charges specified in the order confirmation notice provided to you immediately before you place your order.

Refunds

You are entitled to cancel the Contract between you and St Mary’s within 14 days from payment. You must inform St Mary’s of your decision to cancel via our Helpdesk  

St Mary’s will refund any tuition fees paid as soon as possible.

Complaints

Learners who have a complaint regarding any aspect of their course or journey should address this in writing via our HelpDesk setting out the nature of their complaint and how they would like it to be resolved.
